Tom opened the meeting stating it’s main objective was to discuss nominations for the new year’s officers and his idea of introducing a new nomination meetin. Tom’s main concern, due to “whisperings” around the club and complaints/concerns about “fair counting” of votes, and fair nominations was to hold an “Open Forum” or “All Hands” Meeting. The meeting, in addition to promoting fairness and an open forum to answer questions about the nomination process, will take care of the following 4 items:
1) Members can nominate others in person, with witnesses present
2) Members can nominate themselves in person if interested in running
3) Members interested in being on the “nomination committee” can volunteer
4) Officers will conduct a “live drawing” of members to form the nomination committee
The meeting was tentatively scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 25th at 7 PM. Tom mentioned two possible locations:
1) West Marine / Denny’s
2) Sacramento Marina Admin Building
Tom will call both places and get the final decision to Trish by the following Monday or Tuesday so that a flyer can be mailed out by Thursday, 11/15/01.
Trish will draft the flyer with the appropriate information to mail to members.
Tom said that Ballots are supposed to be mailed out by 11/15/01 via snail-mail. Dale Hepfner and Trish Muñoz said the timeframe seemed too tight and it was discussed briefly that an e-mailed copy for some members might work, but that idea was dismissed due to members wanting (needing?) confidentiality when voting and e-mail would prevent that.
It was also announced that the Christmas Parade will be postponed from 12/08/01 to 12/15/01 due to SYC’s Christmas Party, since there are many CCYC/SYC dual-members. The announcements of the 2002 officers will be held AFTER the Parade on B Dock. The parade will be weather-dependent and Mary Keller offered to do a flyer for the parade. Trish will mail.
Finally, some ideas as to where to hold the 2002 kick-off party were tossed around as follows, though each has it’s challenges:
Crawdads: “too small”
The Delta King: “too pricey”
Sacramento Yacht Club: “conflict of interest”
Old Sac venues: Trish suggested West End Grille or Rio City Café – “no dance floor”
Tom and Mary Keller referenced a budgeted goal of $20 per person for the kick-off party.
