To open the meeting, Trish Muñoz handed out a one-page flyer entitled “Duties of CCYC Officers and Directors” and Mary Keller also handed out Treasurer’s Report (see attached documents).
Tom Keller opened the meeting and thanked members for coming. He stated it’s main objective was to hold a nomination live to avoid a mail-in fiasco and to promote open communication.
Tom thanked his current officers for their work throughout the year and recapped some of the years highlights and basic club information including:
- very successful Kick-Off party with 131 members in attendance
- successful raffles throughout the year have proved helpful for cash flow
- good turn-out at almost all the events, mentioning he was happy to not have missed one
- mentioned RBOC and their importance
- focus for Tom has been on CCYC’s “simplicity”
- let’s not get buried in “red tape” we want FUN meetings vs. those too “serious”
- volunteerism of ALL members highly encouraged, talk to any of the officers here about what you can do to help
Trish Muñoz explained the duties of Measurer and Secretary and the time and equipment it requires (MUST be computer literate), also as Secretary it’s important to REACH out for volunteers and she’d encourage the new secretary to consistently keep in touch with members.
Mary Keller went over the club financials stating we’re in very good standing, also referenced our new system of mailing out renewal notices has been very successful
Tom Keller then went into the purpose of this nomination meeting and defined the following:
Nomination Committee = Commodore + 2 Club members NOT interested in being a Club Officer
Tom then explained that the committee will be responsible for putting names on the voting ballot. Tom said that our goal is to get 2 names (no more) for each position on the ballot.
Tom mentioned that the committee’s job is to ensure coverage on ALL positions and also to “encourage” nominations.
2-time CCYC Commodore Mike Price then stepped in to explain that while having more than 2 names on the ballot per position is possible, they want to avoid a “hostile takeover” of the club; therefore it is a “natural progression” and almost a “given” that existing officers move up the ranks to the next position, unless there are severe problems with the club at the present time.
Former Commodore Ron Nycum then referenced the existing panel of officers as “great people” who have done great jobs and asked members for a round of applause (given).
The floor was then open to position / officer nominations,
after Tom explained each member present with the exception of Trish Muñoz,
Secretary, and Mary Keller, Treasurer, were running for the “next position”
(see below for details):
Nominations for officers included :
Commodore: Dale Hepfner
Vice Commodore: Paul Hairell
Rear Commodore: Dave Rethford
Port Captain: Dan
Austin & Bobby C. Hepfner
Fleet Captain: Randy
Holliday & Bobby C. Hepfner
Treasurer: Sharon Mayes & Beth Garcia
Secretary: Danan Myers
Measurer: Linda Bunyan & Beth Garcia
Board Members: Sean Munoz, Bob Wylie, Buzz Howard, Tim Bunyan
Volunteers for the nominating committee were then asked to show a raise of hands.
All volunteers were recorded on paper and put into a hat. Mike Price drew the names and came up with the following:
Dave Mulcahy
Bob Wylie
Due to Bob Wylies interest in an officer position (board), names were then re-drawn and Bob was swapped out for:
Ron Nycum
Nomination Committee consists of: Dave Mulcahy, Ron Nycum & Tom Keller
Tom then opened the floor for general items and questions
Member John Walthall had a question on where to mail checks for renewals. Trish pointed him to the Ramp Way address. Also asked who to give an e-mail address to, since former Measurer Vicky McCord moved, Trish informed she is doing the roster and took the information verbally.
Member John Walthall also asked about the Bay Cruise and why it didn’t happen. Dale apologized it just wasn’t good timing and John mentioned that some members DID go, and they had a great time at Riverboat II in the Delta. Dale also mentioned that the cancellation of the Bay Cruise was mentioned in the newsletter put out by Trish. Dale explained that the Bay cruise has been very difficult to coordinate and takes a lot of effort and encouraged those who have done it before to volunteer to help next year and do so with PLENTY of advance notice.
Member Bob Wylie asked about a Halloween Party – Trish confirmed it will be on B Dock per normal.
Mary Keller re-confirmed the new date for the Christmas parade has been rescheduled due to the SYC party and encouraged participation. They’d like as many boats as possible!
Member & former Commodore Ron Nycum voiced that it seemed “not right” for us to have to work around SYC’s schedule and we should focus on “this club”
Member John Walthall gave new cell phone to Trish along with new boat name and e-mail address provided earlier.
Mary announced that any nominations not heard in meeting can be submitted to Trish or herself but must be done so ASAP.
